What to Do Immediately After a Crash
When a host application crash or OS freeze leaves your native DAW crash folder empty or corrupted, follow these immediate recovery steps:
- Do Not Re-Save the Broken Session: Avoid opening your DAW and hitting Save. Repeated saves can overwrite auto-save file buffers.
- Launch Sabes Pro Desktop: Open Sabes Pro from your Start Menu or taskbar tray icon.
- Select Your Project Card: Click on your project card in the dashboard to open the Take Reel timeline.
Restoration Workflows
Method 1: Branch to a New Session File (Recommended)
Branching extracts a historical Take snapshot into a brand new DAW session file, keeping your original corrupted session file untouched for safety:
- On the Take Reel timeline, select the last valid Take captured before the crash occurred.
- Click Branch to New File in the action toolbar.
- Enter a filename (e.g.,
SongTitle_Recovered_v2.rpp) and select your target folder. - Open the new session file in your DAW to resume work.
Method 2: Restore in Place
If you prefer overwriting the corrupted project file directly:
- Select the pre-crash Take node on your timeline.
- Click Restore in Place. Sabes Pro creates an automatic "Pre-Restore Safety Snapshot" of your active disk state, then replaces your project file with the selected Take snapshot.
Recovering from Drive Failures (BYOS Remote Restore)
If your local hard drive fails or you move to a new Windows PC, you can restore your complete project repository from your connected BYOS cloud storage (S3, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, R2):
- Install Sabes Pro on your new PC.
- On the initial setup screen, select Restore Existing Repository from Cloud.
- Input your cloud bucket credentials and enter your master passphrase.
- Sabes Pro pulls down your repository index, letting you extract any project state directly onto your local drive.
